Stop by the JACC in November to see Crystal Worl’s new solo exhibit in the gallery.
See Color See Me is a collection of two years of work. Crystal was supposed to have a show in the summer of 2020 but it got delayed because of the pandemic. The extension gave her time to create art based on all of her experiences.
“The pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement, the removal of colonial statues, the world going virtual. There’s a lot of things that happened, including a lot of feelings of stress, anxiety, loss and also gratitude, being closer to loved ones.”
Crystal said there were some challenges installing her show in the gallery because of different types of wall materials, especially the cement. She’d like to see a new gallery space like the one proposed in the new facility.
“The lighting is not the best. There could be more flattering carpets, there are heaters showing. It’s a great space but it has so much more potential to be an actually exhibition space and professional gallery that could really level-up our artists we represent here,” Crystal said.
Not only would a new venue create a more inviting environment for artists, it could also benefit the whole community.
“It would pull in more visitors to come and visit and help stimulate the economy for local artists and local creatives who sell at the JACC,” she said.
Crystal’s show will be up through the month of November. Stop by to check it out during business hours or swing by while you’re shopping at the Juneau Public Market. |
