Challenge Met!

on

Thanks to many generous individual donors, the Capital Civic Center has met the Richard L. and Diane M. Block Family Foundation challenge to raise $300,000 to match their initial gift of $100,000, with $150,000 yet to come from the Foundation to be spread over three years. This gift comes just as the project is moving to the next design phase, adding exciting momentum to the effort.

Richard and Diane Block lived in Juneau for several years participating in arts and cultural activities here, before moving to Anchorage where they continued to work to build their community. This grant to the Capital Civic Center reflects their commitment to their faith, to the arts, to community, and to helping Alaskans.

We are deeply grateful for their support, and for the many people who helped us reach the match challenge.
In other grant news:

We also met the $3 million match required for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant of $750,000; however that federal grant, along with many others nationwide, has been cancelled. While this is very disappointing, we continue moving forward remembering that this project is to be primarily privately funded, rather that government funded. The fact that the NEH recognized this as an important community project leveraged support from other sources and continues to offer credibility to our efforts.

Now we are working toward meeting the Rasmuson Foundation Community Challenge Grant by raising $1 million to match their $1M, which will be followed by $500,000. Please help us! If you can, make a contribution now, which will be doubled.

Please check the Foraker Group web site for information on the impacts of federal actions on Alaska. They sent a letter, which we signed on to, to our congressional delegation outlining the concerns about budget cuts. Check their web site several informational opportunities to help us all be informed, and able to take action as appropriate.
